John and I have been busy with a lot of home improvements since buying our house 2 years ago. The woman who owned the house before us was an avid gardener, but the house was empty for several years so the yard took on a life of its own. The house was built in 1956, we are the 3rd owners and very little improvements/updates were ever made to the house. John and I have done a lot of the work ourselves with the help of family and friends (Lisa, Rob and my dad will remember our "labor on labor day party", when we forced family and friends to do yard work before rewarding them with food. Recently we had to outsource to get work done by some professionals that proved too difficult for us.

This is the basement when we first moved in. If you look closely you will notice the light fixture looks like a outdoor lantern.

This is basement in the middle of renovations, this shows all the hard work John, his brother, and I did. Taking down the old ceiling and walls, installing new installation and new lights. But then it was time to call in the professinonals.
The finished product.... minus most of the furniture and decorations

We also have been doing a lot of yard work. Until we had this house I never understood how entire mayan ruins could be lost and overgrown by the jungle, but this exact thing happened in our yard. When the house was originally built there was a pool and a patio next to the house.
Can you find the pool or the patio?
Obviously the pool was long ago filled with dirt, but we have finally unearthed the surrounding patio. I'm hoping to turn the "pool" into a vegetable garden.
On an entirely different topic, John had jury duty on Tuesday and I had jury duty today. John got off, but I was selected for a jury on a medical malpractice suit. They estimate the trial will last about 3 weeks. I can't believe they actually selected me, especially considering that I corrected the lawyer asking me questions about something he said about human and animal anatomy/physiology. I'm not looking forward to telling work that I am going to miss that much work.

You two (and others) have done an amazing job. I would not have recognized it as the same basement we saw months ago. Great job! love, Aunt A & Uncle B
It's hard to believe that the patio was under that grass. The basement looks fantastic. What a lot of work.
