I was meeting friends for dinner at Ansley Mall last night when a funny thing happened. We had been having thunderstorms and it was still raining but had tapered off a bit when I parked my car. As I walked to the building from the parking lot, I was holding my umbrella in my right hand with my hand near the metal button that opens it. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a bolt of lightning hit a tall power line pole near the street. I heard it at the same time and also felt a small shock to my right hand like a strong static shock one might get in the winter time. I threw down the umbrella and jumped back. It took about 20 minutes for my heart to stop racing but otherwise I was fine. So now I think I'm statistically suppose to win the lottery or something.
Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I'm guessing the electric charge spread out through the damp air to my umbrella. Be careful when you are out in the rain and it has been storming.

Carey, Carey, Carey! Next time something like this happens call your mother first before she reads it on the blog and has a heart attack. After I recovered I quickly figured out you must be ok or you would not be able to write at all.
love, Mom
As a new mom, I agree with Aunt Arlen. I hope I don't have to read about Ella's first lightning strike over the internet!

You asked if anyone else had experienced anything like you did. I remember hearing as a child that our neighbor, Amelia, was hit by lightening in her house. Maybe others remember hearing about that too. I'm very glad that your OK.
